Techstars Startup Weekends are 54-hour events designed to provide superior experiential education for technical and non-technical entrepreneurs. Beginning with Friday night pitches, the event continues through brainstorming, business plan development, and basic prototype creation, culminating in Sunday night demos and presentations.

Participants create working startups during the event and are able to collaborate with like-minded individuals outside of their daily networks. All teams hear talks by industry leaders and receive valuable feedback from local entrepreneurs. The weekend is centered around action, innovation, and education.

Marc Lissade
Facilitator
Marc is a developer and digital marketing expert with more than a decade of small business consulting under his belt.

A proud graduate of the FAU College of Business Leadership & Entrepreneurship inaugural program, Marc also holds multiple degrees in finance, computer science, marketing and management.

Having organized, facilitated or contributed to a dozen Startup Weekend and Startup Week in a short few years, Marc's drive to spread the startup gospel far and wide is instructed by his extensive experience as a startup founder and entrepreneur.

Kasem Rodriguez Mohsen
Kasem is a multi-exited entrepreneur, ethical disruptor and impact investor. Teams he's worked with have reduced medical and clinical error in over 100 countries, decreased the water and carbon footprint in agriculture, streamlined and rationalized the training provided to our most at-risk soldiers and sailors, and advanced the fight against HIV/AIDS and associated comorbidities in Africa. He is now dedicated to building equitable funding and support systems for underestimated entrepreneurs, especially those focused on improving the metrics of health, happiness and empowerment.

Mary Hauser
Mary Ann Hauser is ranked as one of the Global Top 100 Business Coaches in the World. She is the CEO of Serendipity Coaching and Consulting, Inc. dba ActionCOACH, located in Winston-Salem since 2010. Mary Ann is a published member of Forbes Coaches Council and is also a member of Soar, which is an organization focused on improving teams and creating employees who are truly engaged. Her passion lies in helping businesses grow and business owners lead while building strong workplaces where people and communities thrive. Mary Ann has been trained by the top coaches and top business leaders and authors. With the support of the Action Global resources, her Coaching, Training and Development Programs are World Class. Mary Ann believes in coaching continuing education and spends over $20K each year on coaches and training. Each week she personally mentors one on one, approximate 20 businesses and executives around the world, and her firm coaches hundreds of others.
Anthony Abney
Anthony Abney is the Business Launch Specialist for SBTDC at WSSU. In his prior roles Anthony was a Director of a venture capital program for people of color and a Portfolio Management Consultant for Ben Franklin Technology Partners, the largest venture capital firm in Philadelphia. He hold a Master of Science degree in Innovation Management & Entrepreneurship from Temple University Fox School of Business. He also has a background in economic development, community banking, and small business private equity.
Carl Turner
Carl founded and is CEO of SWIPEBY, a curbside pickup technology platform. He was born and lived most of his life in Berlin, Germany and had the honor to gain experience before SWIPEBY working with Google (Hamburg), Kearney (Dubai) and The Boston Consulting Group (Kuala Lumpur) and co-founding SEON (Cape Town, SA).
Daryl Shaw
Daryl Shaw is the founder and Chief Creative Strategist of Royalty Marketing. Shaw has more than a decade of experience in integrated marketing, creative strategy and product / category management. Shaw has managed several Fortune 500 and corporate brands including Hanes, Dial Soap, Right Guard, Renuzit, Wrangler, Soft Scrub, Harley Davidson, Wells Fargo and Jersey Mike as well as entertainment industry clients such as Kevin Hart, Kelly Rowland and Shaquille O'Neal. Shaw is a graduate of Wake Forest University.
Cynthia Beiler
With over 25 years of sales and marketing experience, Cynthia works with clients to develop and implement an overall sales strategy to accelerate profitable growth. She has rebuilt multiple B-to-B sales organizations and has a knack for identifying and leveraging the potential in any sales organization. The platform of her work is based on her belief that an integration of improved mindset, leadership, structure and process will create an engaged sales culture that stimulates profitable growth. Cynthia's work in the Start-Up eco-system has expanded over the last three years. Serving as a mentor in past Startup Weekend events, serving as the Strategic Advisor to HER Digital Incubator for Female Founders and as an activator for SheEO Global community.
Elliot Strunk
Designer, artist, entrepreneur, podcaster, big thinker, cat lover, decent trivia player, mediocre comedian. 25 years as a designer. 15+ as an entrepreneur.
Emmanuel Miot
I am a 4x founder with 16+ years of business consulting and management experience in various industries including sales, banking, technology, and social entrepreneurship. I can help participants with early-stage business strategy, idea validation, rapid prototyping, and implementation.
Magalie Yacinthe
Magalie, an alumnus of Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University, is a conscious entrepreneur and community leader that has a passion for social enterprises. Magalie currently serves as Interim Executive Director and Board Chairwoman of HUSTLE Winston-Salem, an organization dedicated to leveling the playing field for entrepreneurs with a focus on women, people of color, and marginalized business districts. She is the owner of SO-IN Forsyth, a socially innovative oil company that is building community equity through sustainability. Magalie's motivation for SO-IN Forsyth is deeply rooted in creating a local bio-economy with a circular model that benefits all people. This is essential to the core of who she is. Over seven years ago, Magalie started YES Strategies & Solutions, a cost effective event strategy and solutions consulting firm because she recognized that nonprofits didn't have the capital to pay big firms what they needed to accomplish successful programming and carry out their missions. Magalie serves as Board Vice-Chair for Forsyth Futures and Board Communications Chair for Winston-Salem Delta Fine Arts, Inc. She is an active member of the Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Charlotte-Metro Chapter of the FAMU National Alumni Association. Magalie is a 2018 graduate of Leadership Winston-Salem, and in 2018 the City Council and the Human Relations Commission honored Magalie as a recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Young Dreamers Award.
John Balestrieri
John Balestrieri has over twenty years of Technology Management, Gaming, Advertising and Entertainment Experience. John was the former Worldwide CTO of Ogilvy. one of the largest and most prestigious advertising agencies in the world. He has worked as both the COO & CTO for a number of technology companies. Best known for his work on Kasparov vs. Deep Blue, he architected and oversaw the development of a full MMORTS Game at Kabam and has worked on a number of mobile game titles that have hit #1 on the US charts generating hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. He is an advisor to a number of international gaming and media companies around the globe.
Bruce Maxwell
Bruce grew his first startup to $40 million in sales, 450 employees, and raised $48M in VC funding. Since then he has worked with over 120 companies to help them get funding.
Lindsey Schwab
As the Director of Community Relations at the Innovation Quarter, Lindsey is responsible for supporting the growth of the Innovation Quarter through targeted sector and community partner development. She also leads iQ Community Labs which aims to scale solutions in health and social equity by pairing traditional and non-traditional partners.

Judge
Valeria Sadovykh, is a leading expert in the decision making and decision intelligence aspects of AI. She is an Emerging Technology lead at PwC Labs with a focus on leveraging emerging technology and strategic partnerships to solve humanity's challenges. Valeria's expertise, on the utilization of AI, ML and digital transformations, has shaped the business decisions of various multinational corporations across a range of industries.

Valeria has led strategic IT developments involving emerging technology, Industry 4.0, digital transformation, intelligent automation, and mass customization. She has successfully delivered business-critical projects leading to enhanced workplace efficiencies, operational decision-making, sustainable practices, and optimizing the customer journey.

In addition to her consulting career, Valeria is also actively involved in academia. She has a series of academic publications in top tier journals/conference proceedings within Information Systems/Computer Science domains. She holds a PhD in Information Systems from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Her primary research interests are on online decision making, decision intelligence, human biases, and disruption and adoption of AI and ML. She has lived and worked in Singapore, New Zealand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, Europe and now the US.

Dr. Shante' Williams
Dr. Shante Williams is currently the CEO of Black Pearl Global Investments, a $25M venture capital fund. She is a distinguished Venture Capitalist, business owner, Inventor, Intellectual Property Strategist, and Private Investor. In her career years, she has used her wealth of scientific knowledge as well as her passion for innovation to solve multiple complex problems across the industries of health, finance, and real estate. Best known for her creative problem-solving approach, Dr. Williams' impressive professional qualities and ethics make it easy for her to transition into various career paths seamlessly. Her proven track record of excellence and leadership has been an integral part of growth for many individuals and businesses.

Before her current position, she worked fully in the medical field and is widely recognized for her stellar discovery of innovative chemotherapy treatments for high-grade invasive brain tumors. As soon as she discovers how to apply her innovative prowess to other facets of her industry, she earned numerous leadership positions. Shante was formerly the Vice President of Technology Acquisition in the Healthcare sector, the Director of Mergers and Acquisitions in the Consumer Healthcare Industry, even the Director of Intellectual Property in the Electric Drive Vehicle Industry. Having enjoyed remarkable years of accomplishment in Corporate America, she founded her first company, RW Capital Partners, which became an industry-leading firm specializing in Real Estate, Technology Development, Start-up/Stand-up, and Business Disputes Resolution. Her knowledge remains pivotal to helping entrepreneurs evolve and become more informed.

In the venture capital sector, Dr. Williams continues to break barriers with Black Pearl's fund focused on reducing health disparities across the globe. Black Pearl is an advocate for those that continue to experience inferior outcomes and reduced access. Black Pearl's tag line "Be Well. Do Well." captures the firm's mission to invest in transformative companies around the world. Dr. Williams and her partners are seeking to change healthcare worldwide.

Dr. Williams also serves the community as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Black Chamber of Commerce and Heal Charlotte, a non-profit dedicated to holistic community change. Also, she is a Community Advisory Board Member for the local NPR affiliate WFAE 90.7, and a Community advisor for Shelter to Shutters a non-profit that deploys marketplace solutions to solve homelessness.
Karen Barnes
Karen Barnes is a mega-connector, visionary, ecosystem builder, three-time Triad Business Journal Power Player, and Founding CEO of her sixth startup, Agile City Winston-Salem -- a nonprofit innovation consultancy focused on designing and building entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems through a suite of offerings.

Prior to founding Agile City, Barnes served for three years as the Founding Executive Director of Venture Cafe Winston-Salem, where she and her team convened the ecosystem weekly, launched a Minority and Women's Business Center, and created a public-private partnership to launch a startup recruiting initiative. Previously, she was a founding partner for an applied artificial intelligence startup; Vice President of Insights for a research and advertising agency completely focused on sustainability; the founder of her own marketing and communications consulting firm; and strategic lead for several advertising agencies working with Fortune 100 clients, including Boeing, ConAgra Foods, MillerCoors, Johnson & Johnson, Steelcase, Georgia-Pacific, Toshiba, Hanes, General Mills and Lowe's Home Improvement.

Barnes has a master's degree in journalism and public affairs from The American University, and a bachelor's degree in English Literature from Hollins University. She's also a pretty decent golfer.
